CLEAN ENERGY INSIDER
MARCH 12, 2025
REAMS REPORT

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Last week was a red-hot time for geothermal energy. To start the week, CRES Forum released a new white paper ([link removed]) , “The Conservative Case for Next Generation Geothermal Energy,” authored by Michael Yancey, Director of Congressional Policy at CRES Forum. This paper explores the immense benefits of geothermal energy, highlighting its potential to drive domestic energy production, reduce reliance on foreign adversaries and solidify the United States’ standing as a global energy leader.

In conjunction with the white paper’s release, CRES Forum teamed up with Project InnerSpace to host a full-day event featuring key speakers, including Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Sen. John Curtis (R-Utah), Reps. Randy Weber (R-Texas) and August Pfluger (R-Texas), as well top industry leaders.

It’s more clear than ever that geothermal — particularly next generation geothermal technology — is a critical part of America’s energy future. With its ability to utilize an existing skilled workforce to provide reliable, baseload power while strengthening our energy supply, geothermal is essential to ensuring U.S. energy dominance.

At a time when global competitors are racing to control the future of energy, the U.S. must act decisively to maintain its leadership. Cutting red tape, fostering private-sector innovation and expanding access to domestic resources will ensure America — not China — cements its position as the global energy leader.

You can read the white paper HERE ([link removed]) and check out our event recap blog HERE ([link removed]) .

This week, I’m at CERAWeek engaging with top industry leaders on why an all-of-the-above energy approach strengthens our nation and puts America first.

Stay tuned to learn more and stay connected with us for more insights on how conservative leadership is driving America’s clean energy future!
Sincerely,
Heather Reams
CRES President

WHAT CRES IS HEARING
"We need to be unleashing our resources, including all of our renewables, because that’s all part of the energy basket as well. So, it’s not an either-or, in my view, it’s all of the above. And that’s good for our economy. It’s good for our security, it’s good for our geopolitical power. America’s resource production is good for the global environment, because when we’re producing our resources, we stop paying countries that have little to no environmental standards, no interest in reducing their emissions, who often rely on child slave labor, and who frankly don’t even like us. So why not seize the opportunities we have here?” – Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) in a floor speech ([link removed]) against S.J.Res.10, a resolution to terminate the national energy emergency declared by President Trump.
––
“We shouldn’t be taking a sledgehammer to it. We should take a scalpel and really see what’s been working out there.” – House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy Chairman Bob Latta (R-Ohio) about clean energy incentives in an interview ([link removed]) with Politico.
––

“Voters across the country are concerned about rising costs, job opportunities, and national security. They understand that offshore wind energy is American energy, which strengthens our independence, supports high-paying jobs, and creates critical new revenue streams for local communities and economies. Our policymakers should pay attention to these results and support offshore wind projects that advance the United States’ energy diversity and bolster the nation’s energy security at a time of significant global change.” – Turn Forward Executive Director Hillary Bright on new polling ([link removed]) that shows the majority of Americans believe offshore wind has an important role to play in American energy.
––

“Across the country, from Pittsburgh to Phoenix and beyond, these tax cuts have been the key to unlocking a manufacturing renaissance, bolstering our energy independence, and creating millions of new jobs in America. Amid extreme weather, high prices, and growing electricity needs, these are essential investments for a resilient, prosperous, and energy abundant America.” – Heather O’Neill, President and CEO at Advanced Energy United in a statement ([link removed]) announcing the organization's new website, UnlockingAdvancedEnergy.com ([link removed]) , that tells the story of how advanced energy companies are using smart tax cuts to unlock American energy abundance.

WHAT CRES IS SAYING

About Rep. Andrew Garbarino’s (R-N.Y.) letter emphasizing the importance of protecting critical clean energy tax credits...
“Energy tax credits have already resulted in billions of dollars in private investments, spurring economic development and creating new, high-paying jobs in communities across the country. We firmly agree with the signatories that fine-tuning energy or manufacturing tax incentives calls for a precise, thoughtful and scalpel-like approach rather than broad cuts. Maintaining these tax credits will help accelerate energy dominance, keeping energy prices in check for American families while providing the certainty American companies seek to invest, innovate, and deploy more American homegrown energy. We are grateful for Rep. Garbarino’s continued leadership on this critical issue and thank each of the members who have joined his efforts.” – CRES President Heather Reams in a statement ([link removed]) .
––

About the House passage of Rep. August Pfluger’s (R-Texas) Methane Fee CRA...
“CRES applauds the passage of H.J.Res. 35, which repeals the EPA’s final rule promulgating the natural gas tax. While Congress must still work to eliminate the natural gas tax itself, repealing this rule provide America’s energy producers a much-needed reprieve from the heavy hand of government. Higher taxes and onerous regulations designed to punish American producers only succeed in stifling innovation and making the most efficient producers less competitive in the global market. Such actions are contrary to lowering global emissions and advancing an American energy agenda. The federal government should champion these American operators and their progress, not penalize them.” – CRES President Heather Reams in a statement ([link removed]) .

WHAT CRES IS DOING

CRES Forum recently hosted a briefing to educate Republican Congressional staff on the potential of hydrogen as a cornerstone of American energy innovation, as well as on the key role of federal incentives in deploying this versatile energy resource to enable American energy dominance.

Experts from Battelle, ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions and Honeywell UO shared insights on the role of federal incentives in deploying this versatile resource. Read more HERE ([link removed]) .

CRES President Heather Reams moderated a discussion with Rep. Cathy Castor (D-Florida) at the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) Policy Forum to discuss how the Congresswoman is working to advance bipartisan clean energy policy.

WHAT CRES IS WRITING

Virginian Pilot: Rep. Kiggans is fighting to protect investments in Virginia ([link removed])
Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District has a fierce leader in U.S. Rep. Jen Kiggans, who continues to spearhead efforts to protect the state’s growing energy industry. Kiggans recognizes the importance of innovation and modernized infrastructure in ensuring reliability, as well as the undeniable link between energy security and national security — something that we see firsthand in her district.

RealClearEnergy: Geothermal Is the Future of American Energy Dominance ([link removed])
Geothermal energy presents a unique opportunity for renewed American leadership with a resource that is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year regardless of weather. This relatively untapped source of power uses energy stored in the earth to generate electricity or provide heat. It is inherently resilient and reliable, strengthens the grid, reduces energy costs and expands our energy supplies, with essentially no emissions. As President Trump and Congress work to enact meaningful policies to lower energy prices and achieve energy dominance, lawmakers must embrace policies that align with an all-of-the-above—and below—energy strategy.
