Thanks to our friends at DC Action for putting together this call to action. DC JWJ is joining allies across DC - incuding our elected leaders - in demanding our funds be available for us! We will be at the Hart Building at 10 am and joining the Billionaires Are Killing Us rally and march at noon.
The District of Columbia’s budget is under attack, and the stakes could not be higher!
Yesterday, the US House of Representatives voted to advance a Continuing Resolution spending bill that treats the District like a federal agency and will force District leaders to immediately cut $1 billion from the current fiscal year budget. Instead of fixing this oversight, the Republican-led House doubled down on the harms they have already unleashed on the District’s workforce and economy. It’s now up to the Senate to intervene.
This Continuing Resolution isn’t just bad policy—it’s an unprecedented attack on D.C. governance that will cause massive disruptions to education, health, public safety, our social safety net, and everyday government services our families and communities rely on. We must prevent this spending bill from moving forward without revision. The Senate could vote on the measure as early as Wednesday evening.
Here are three ways you can take action:
Call and email the Senate Leadership.
Join the Free DC Protest on Wednesday, March 12 at 10:00 AM in the Atrium of the Hart Senate Building.
Attend “Recess at the Capitol to Protect Our Schools” on Thursday, March 13. Kids and youth are welcome!
Also, our allies in the DC Council have put out helpful resources to mobilize District residents to action. Feel free to share far and wide.
