John,
Donald Trump has made it clear that his administration wants total control over the media. By barring The Associated Press (AP) from White House events, Trump is sending a chilling message: independent journalism is unwelcome.
The reason? AP refused to comply with the administration’s demand to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” which is a propaganda move straight out of an authoritarian playbook. When AP stood its ground, the White House retaliated by blocking its reporters from the Oval Office, Air Force One, and critical press briefings.
This is an outright attack on the First Amendment. The press exists to hold those in power accountable, not to serve as mouthpieces for government propaganda. When a president starts dictating what the media can and cannot say, democracy itself is in danger.
AP has filed a lawsuit to challenge this unconstitutional ban, but we can’t wait for the courts to act.
Sign now to send a direct message to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt to reinstate The Associated Press immediately.
If Trump gets away with this, it won’t stop at AP. Today, it’s one outlet. Tomorrow, it’s any journalist who refuses to toe the administration’s line. That’s how free speech dies, one ban at a time.
From CNN to The New York Times, no news outlet is safe if the White House is allowed to pick and choose which reporters get access based on their willingness to spread government-approved narratives.
This is bigger than politics. Whether someone is a Democrat, Republican, or Independent, we should all agree: a free press is essential to a free country. The White House does not get to dictate the truth, and journalists must be allowed to report the facts without fear of retaliation.
We must take a stand. Sign now to demand the reinstatement of The Associated Press and defend press freedom before it’s too late.
Together, we can show this administration that the American people won’t tolerate an attack on the First Amendment.
