Worse still, instead of fixing the problem, they’re lining their own pockets and asking you to pay for it.

| Millions of people will be feeling the pinch as water bills rise. It’s a scandal that we’re having to pay for these companies’ own failings.
While we’re happy the government finally listened to our calls to ban bonuses for polluting water company bosses, they must go much further to put an end to illegal sewage dumping.
The ineffective, weak water regulator Ofwat must be replaced with a new water regulator with real power to hold water companies to account.
Our proposed Clean Water Authority would have enhanced monitoring powers, including unannounced inspections, the ability to set binding targets to prevent sewage discharges, and the power to revoke licences of poorly performing companies swiftly.
