In an interview with Fox Business, Elon Musk suggested that $500 to $700 billion needed to be cut from the federal government. He said “Most of the federal spending is entitlements. That’s the big one to eliminate.”

This is the most direct threat Musk has issued toward Social Security. But let’s be clear: Social Security is NOT an entitlement. Seniors paid their hard earned money into Social Security taxes every single paycheck with the promise that Social Security would be there for them when they retire.

Seniors rely on Social Security to live. Full stop. Without it, people will stop going to the doctor, they will be able to buy less food, and they could miss rent or mortgage payments.

Not only would cutting Social Security devastate Seniors, but it would harm everyone below the Social Security threshold who will now need to take THEIR hard-earned dollars and use them to support their parents, grandparents, and other loved ones who used to rely on Social Security to survive.

Cutting Social Security would be the largest betrayal of the American people in history, and the fact that Elon is suggesting it and Trump is entertaining it is disqualifying.
