I have never been known for my subtlety or diplomatic skills. As a child, my “plays well with others” grade was always my lowest. I often introduce myself in conversation as a plain-spoken New Yorker — and people quickly learn what I mean.
When it comes to attacks on our democracy, I call it like I see it. When the corporate media capitulated to Trump, I did not hesitate to call it out in stark terms. When billionaires bent the knee, I condemned them without hesitation. Now, sadly, it looks like our country’s largest law firms are preparing to bow down to Trump.
The background to this latest crisis of democracy has been well reported. Donald Trump and his allies have spent years lying about lawyers and the courts. They lied about their failed lawsuits after the 2020 election results. They lied about the legal proceedings against him. They lied about the prosecutions of those involved in the Jan. 6 insurrection.
Not only has the GOP spread lies, but Republicans have also allowed threats against the lawyers involved in these cases to fester and grow. As one of those lawyers, I can tell you firsthand how aggressive and dangerous the conspiracy-driven hate has become…
