The Lincoln Project

Friend,

Umm… hello?

Mr. “President?”

Economic “genius?”

Seriously, did anybody catch what the bloated, orange, boneheaded, LEADER OF OUR COUNTRY said to the press yesterday?

Willingly causing a recession. Huh. That’s a new one.

The reasoning? Yes, you guessed it. Because he can’t admit that he’s wrong about these stupid tariffs.

Just as a reminder, if he just stopped instituting them and then backing off a few minutes after several times a week, everything would go back to normal. The stock market wouldn’t be crashing. Our allies wouldn’t hate us. Grocery prices would come down.

But who cares about that when Donald Trump’s ego is at stake? Totally worth screwing over every last middle-class family for.

Can you imagine if literally any other sitting U.S. President said this to the media? It’d be on the front page of every newspaper. At the top of every cable news show. Talked about on Twitter relentlessly.

But because it was Donald Trump, the man who does everything wrong but at the same time can do no wrong in the eyes of the press, most people will not see that he literally said he’s willing to put the United States through a freaking recession.

A recession means even higher prices, fewer jobs, and a darker future. It’s a main characteristic of a failing economy. Trump is willing to put the American people through this just to save face. Is that really making America great again?

Voters need to know about this. They need to know just how little Donald Trump cares about them and their families. They need to know that he’s willing to destroy their lives just to appear powerful. They need to know why him and his MAGA minions never should’ve taken office in the first place.

Help us show them >>
