Hello from the State Capitol,
Last week was another busy week here at the Capitol.
Last Monday we had a rally to support Rep. Scott’s House File 12 before it was heard on the house floor. Riley Gains who is a huge advocate for fighting to keep biological men out of women’s sports came and spoke. House File 12 or “Preserving Women’s Sports Act” states that only students of the female sex may participate in an elementary or secondary school athletic team or sport that an educational institution has restricted on the basis of sex to women or girls. All 67 Republicans voted for the proposal, and all 66 Democrats voted against it.
Last week, I presented four bills in committee hearings, with two of them focused on local projects that will directly benefit our communities. These bills aim to improve essential services, support local development, and ensure that our region receives the resources it needs to thrive. These bills were heard in the Veterans Committee and the Commerce Committee.
On Thursday the February forecast was released by Minnesota Management and Budget, which shows a growing deficit of $6 billion. Minnesota’s budget has gone from a record surplus to a massive deficit in just two years, all because of unchecked spending and tax increases under one-party control. House Republicans are committed to reversing this damage by prioritizing responsible budgeting, curbing wasteful spending, and ensuring Minnesota families aren’t left to pay for failed leadership.
