Email from The Andy Caldwell Show Stop County Supervisors From Giving Themselves a 48% Raise! Top 5 Reasons Santa Barbara County Supervisors Should Not Give THEMSELVES a 48% raise: 1. The position of county supervisor was never meant to be a “good paying job”, it was meant to be a literal sacrifice of public service. 2. Raising their salary to $171,000 means they will make significantly more than our State Assembly and Senate members who make about $132,000, and they will make almost as much as members of Congress as both the House and Senate make $174,000 even though these other positions require constant travel and the representation of more constituents. 3. County Supervisors will only meet 36 times this year! They take off for four weeks in the summer, two weeks at Christmas, a week at Thanksgiving, and all major holidays! They also have staff to take care of constituent calls and other matters on a day-to-day basis. 4. Much of what they “work at” is not related to their core responsibilities of overseeing the operations of county government. This would include campaigning for reelection! Making appearances at ribbon cuttings, parades, and fundraisers. None of these things are part of their core responsibilities. That is, should they get paid $85 an hour to “grip and grin”? Moreover, much of their work would disappear if they simplified the land use process in the county! 5. Finally, these career politicians are not doing a good job since we are mired in debt, govt bloat, failing infrastructure, regulatory red-tape, natural hazards like fires and floods that are abated elsewhere, and the highest living expenses, including for housing, water, electricity, and fuel, in the country. The supervisors will meet on Feb. 25 to vote on this salary increase. Please contact them NOW to voice your opposition!
