Our safety at risk to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.

John,
As Musk and Trump take a wrecking ball to key federal agencies, Congress is now moving to pass extreme budget cuts – including for safe food and clean water – to pay for massive tax breaks for billionaires. Urge Congress to reject this agenda!
Their plan: to dismantle the federal government, then loot and privatize it.
This proposed budget formalizes the looting part. It would move billions of dollars from things like food and water safety, food assistance, healthcare, and environmental protections to fund massive tax cuts for corporations and billionaires.
But with Republicans holding an extremely narrow majority in the House – we can stop this agenda from moving forward. Tell your members of Congress: Don’t Defund Safe Food and Clean Water!
Send Your Message
These budget cuts would have dire consequences for our food and water. They would cut food safety inspections critical to preventing food-borne illnesses and deaths, cut funding for local water systems that keep our water safe, and much more.
Both Republicans and Democrats need to be hearing a flood of messages from their constituents right now!
With the slimmest majority in Congress, we need just a handful of Republicans to do the right thing and oppose these cuts. And Democrats need to be speaking up and doing everything they can to block this agenda. Here’s what’s on the table:
Cuts to food safety oversight
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 48 million people get sick, and 3,000 people die from foodborne diseases each year in the U.S. We already don't have enough food safety inspectors, and Musk-Trump are gunning for cuts that will result in even fewer. These cuts would mean more foodborne illnesses and deaths if they go forward.
>> Tell Congress: Don’t cut food safety!
Cuts to SNAP and other food assistance
Republicans in Congress are proposing at least $150 billion in cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to help pay for tax cuts for corporations and billionaires. SNAP benefits help feed more than 40 million low-income people in the U.S. every year, providing an average of just $212 a month per person for food. With grocery bills continuing to rise, cutting nutrition assistance is unjust and inhumane.
>> Tell Congress: Protect SNAP benefits!
Cuts to safe and clean water
Musk, Trump, and Congressional allies have made it clear that they intend to undermine local water systems by endangering local financing and cutting State Revolving Fund programs that provide funding for municipalities to maintain local water and sewer systems. Poor water infrastructure results in diseases, including noroviruses, Legionella disease, ear infections, and more. There are more than 7 million cases and over 6,000 deaths as a result of waterborne diseases in the U.S. every year. Congress should be prioritizing access to safe, clean water, not cutting essential funding that keeps our communities safe.
>> Tell Congress: Keep our water safe!
Musk and Trump have an intentional strategy – years in the making – to dismantle the federal government, defund its essential functions, and consolidate even more power in the hands of billionaires and corporations. We’ll fight with everything we have to expose and block this agenda.
It’s time for our members of Congress – Democrats and Republicans – to prove to us who they represent, and the choice is simple. Will they stand with ordinary people, or will they help the ultra-rich get richer by gutting protections that keep us safe?
It starts with communicating with your members of Congress to demand that they oppose these extreme budget cuts. Tell Congress: Don’t defund safe food and clean water!
Onward together,
