We could not be more proud of what we're achieving together at the state level, John. These wins reaffirm that progress is possible when we elect state leaders who champion policies that uplift working families, protect fundamental rights, and ensure every community has the resources to thrive.
This year and beyond, we're doubling down in our efforts to secure more victories in key state races — but we'll need your support! Can you pitch in today to power our movement?
In the 2024 cycle, we endorsed 53 progressive changemakers in key state legislatures across the country and with your support, we won 31 races — an impressive feat in an otherwise challenging election year for Democrats.
More recently, we endorsed JJ Singh and Kannan Srinivasan in two special elections in Virginia — two critical victories that ensured the General Assembly remained blue.
Now, our alumni are making waves and netting wins for their constituents and communities.
Sen. Sarah Keyeski in Wisconsin has been a key voice in efforts to increase investments in childcare. This comes after a bipartisan bill was passed last year that increased the state's childcare and dependent tax credit, providing relief to nearly 110,000 Wisconsin families.
Sen. Kannan Srinivasan's bill to expand mental health care for students in Virginia passed the state Senate. The bill will allow for students to access telehealth counseling services. Moreover, it will provide students with essential mental health services when in-person options aren't available.
In Michigan, Rep. Mai Xiong rang in the new year introducing a bill that would allow public employers to increase contributions to workers' health plans. The bill would also require public employers to cover at least 80% of the total annual costs of the health plans they offer to employees. The bill is now awaiting Governor Gretchen Whitmer's signature.
None of these wins would be possible without your support — and we're thankful to have your support in our fight for a better future.
We're protecting our rights and communities — one step and state at a time. And we're not slowing down anytime soon. But this work takes resources. Can you make a gift today to sustain our work?
