John, it's Lois Frankel, and I wanted to make sure you saw ⬆️: after almost 30 years of service, the head of the Social Security Administration has stepped down after refusing to give DOGE access to sensitive information.
This headline only adds to the chaos we've seen from the Trump administration's new agency, and as someone who's seen it all from the GOP in over thirty years in elected office, I want to say this:
What is happening in the White House is an unprecedented attack on our democracy.
Donald Trump has essentially sold his presidential power to the highest bidder. His right-hand man — and wealthiest donor — has inserted himself into our government and wreaked havoc.
Let's be clear: GOP megadonors should not lead press conferences in the Oval Office. Tech billionaires should not have access to some of our most sensitive information, and our president should not be a puppet for the ultra-wealthy.
Beyond just unacceptable, John, this is unconstitutional.
But what we've seen so far is just a warning of what's to come. The new administration, with their "expert" on government efficiency in tow, will not hesitate to slash funding for important benefits like Medicaid, and pass tax cuts to make their ultra-wealthy donors even richer.
Democrats won't stand for this. Throughout this assault on our democracy, my colleagues and I have been loud in our protests and even louder in our attempts to block harmful legislation from passing in the House.
Our focus will remain on protecting the American people, but building momentum against the Trump administration will require continued shows of public support.
I'm not asking for your donation today. My team created this petition in part to tell these MAGA extremists that enough is enough — will you sign it and express your support for our movement? [[link removed]]
