Although we’re not surprised, we’re appalled that President Trump has used his first days and weeks in office to wreak havoc on immigrant communities.

 

First, President Trump released an executive order suspending refugee admissions in the United States. Then, the administration issued stop-work to all of the national resettlement agencies, including HIAS. This effectively halted the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program.

 

It’s a sweeping example of executive overreach that’s had an immediate and devastating impact on refugees, communities, and the organizations that work with them. So we’re taking the administration to court.

 

It’s both breathtakingly cruel and brazenly illegal — but we won’t sit quietly while the President overrides crucial programs and destroys lives. Will you stand with us?

It may be the start of the new Trump administration — but HIAS has been ramping up our work to protect the rights and dignity of people seeking safety in the U.S. for years. We are prepared to respond to the unjust, dehumanizing refugee, immigration, and asylum policies that this new administration puts forward. We are telling President Trump: We stand with refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrants.

 

Jack, in this dark time, we know that one of our most powerful tools is the collective voice of our community. So we’re asking you now to tell President Trump: We wholly reject your administration’s cruel policies toward refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrants. We remain in solidarity with people seeking safety, and we will fight against any policy you put forward that puts their lives in danger.

We must use our power — our voice — to combat the politics of fear and demonization.
