John,

Every other day it seems, Trump makes a new announcement about tariffs affecting Canada.

Yes, all this is confusing and unsettling, but that’s precisely why he’s doing it. It’s all part of his peculiar negotiation strategy.

Our establishment politicians and media should stop freaking out every time Trump makes a new move.

They should put aside the fake patriotic rhetoric that they’ve suddenly rediscovered.

They should stop pretending that we can win a trade war with the US by imposing import tariffs on American goods that CANADIAN CONSUMERS WILL PAY!

Yes, tariffs are paid by the consumers of the country that imposes them, NOT by the other country.

It’s just insane to hurt ourselves a lot more so that we can hurt the Americans a little bit.

What they should do instead is try to understand what Trump wants, make proposals, and take actions so that we can reach a deal with him, as I said weeks ago.

Despite his claim that “we don’t need Canadian imports,” Trump knows very well that American businesses and consumers need the oil, steel, aluminum, potash, uranium, auto parts, lumber, and many other products we sell them at a good price.

And that they will be impacted negatively by his tariffs that THEY (and not Canada) will have to pay.

That’s why he keeps postponing or adjusting them, while never entirely removing his threats.

Although the fentanyl and migrant issues are important, I believe they are only a pretext.

Trump wants to bring back investments and manufacturing to the US. He wants to be in a strong position to renegotiate the North American free trade agreement.

He also knows that the longer term central problem of the American economy is the strong US dollar, which makes imports cheap and US exports less competitive. And also his country’s massive public debt financed by fiat money creation, again thanks to the strong dollar and its status as the world’s reserve currency.

I believe his ultimate goal is to engineer a monetary reset that will see the dollar devalued and gold remonetized.

There will be a global deal with Russia and China, two major powers that also want to dedollarize and have been accumulating large quantities of gold.

All the geopolitical moves we see now, such as making peace with Russia on Ukraine, fit in this plan.

John, unfortunately, Canada is woefully unprepared for all this.

We are the only major country with no gold reserves.

We have just spent a decade spending like there is no tomorrow, and taxing and regulating our businesses to the ground.

We are too dependent on the US and our economy is not competitive.

But worst of all, our political establishment are all hysterical drama queens who understand nothing of this.

It’s time to put adults in charge.

John, can you contribute $25 to our election fund today so that we are better able to compete with the establishment parties in the coming election?
