Dear John,

On International Women’s Day we felt it was important to share how the critical lack of funding for global humanitarian aid is disproportionately affecting women and girls forced to flee.

In times of crisis and displacement, women and girls are at risk of increased discrimination, exploitation and violence. Because of this, we always aim to deliver activities designed to prevent gender-based violence (GBV) and provide services to survivors of violence in all our operations.

At UNHCR, we support local partners, including refugee women-led organizations with great expertise, to provide lifesaving services to survivors while preventing violence to ensure it doesn’t happen in the first place.

However, our current severe lack of humanitarian funding means that many displaced women worldwide risk being cut off from life-saving assistance.

Refugee women and girls show great strength in face of unimaginable hardship—but they cannot face these challenges alone. We are truly relying on the solidarity of donors to ensure that refugees do not go without life-saving support.
