Happy International Women’s Day!

This Women’s History Month, we’re reminded of why the work we do here at Vote Mama is so essential in today’s political landscape.

Despite society’s extensive track record of gender-based discrimination and bias, women continue to make monumental achievements every single day — and yet, we are still fighting to achieve true equality. From attacks on abortion access to lack of government representation, it’s clear that the patriarchy is still alive and well.

This year for the first time since 2011, the number of women serving in Congress declined. Women still make up just 28% of our congressional representatives, and moms of children under 18 are less than 7%.

Meanwhile, 85% of women in the U.S. are moms by age 45. If we want to close the gender gap in politics, we must support moms running for office, up and down the ballot and across the country.

The good news is that we can make history this year and make gains on the foundation we worked so hard to build. Vote Mama have already endorsed moms like Abigail Spanberger in Virginia and Jocelyn Benson in Michigan, who are both running for Governor to stand up and protect our states from harmful policies advanced in Washington.
