I joined the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) last year after spending nearly three years as the Director of Government Affairs at the Minnesota Department of Commerce. I worked closely with the leadership at Commerce and the legislature to advance some of the biggest pieces of clean energy and consumer protection legislation in recent state history. It’s a time in my state service that I will always be proud of.
It was a big step for me to leave Commerce, but it was a positive change. I love the work here at MDVA and am happy to be advancing the agency’s budget and policy initiatives at the legislature and engaging with Minnesota’s Congressional Delegation on Veterans issues.
There were two main factors that drew me to the MDVA. The first was my fond memories of working with the agency when I was Senior Policy Advisor to the Governor for Veterans Affairs in the first term of the Walz-Flanagan Administration. I worked closely with the leadership team and legislators to secure the final funding needed for the new homes. It’s extremely rewarding to see them now open and serving residents! The second was the chance to spend more time working with fellow Veterans. I find the work deeply fulfilling and interesting.
I’ve been so impressed with the knowledge, good humor and dedication of all the team members across our Healthcare, Programs and Services and Central Office Divisions bring to their work. I believe anyone who wants to work in a mission-driven environment with great people would very much enjoy a career here at the MDVA.
