Piper Christian with Stewardship Utah here with a crucial air quality ask. You heard about a slew of bills from me a few weeks ago, focusing on improving air quality throughout the Wasatch front, and yesterday morning one of those bills passed out of committee- HB 420 Halogen Emissions Amendments!

We need you to contact your house representative and urge them to support HB 420. This bill would reduce chlorine and bromine emissions by 75%, a monumental win for air quality in the Salt Lake Valley. Yesterday, this bill narrowly passed out of committee despite extensive lobbying from industry interests. We need your voice to get this bill through the next hurdle.

HB 420 builds off a bill O2 Utah helped pass in 2023, HB 220, which directed the Utah Division of Air Quality to inventory halogen emissions and develop a reduction plan and state standard for these pollutants. HB 420 simply implements the pollution controls recommended by the DAQ.
