POLITICO: “House GOP puts Medicaid on chopping block … target staffing
levels at nursing homes, those with disabilities, low-income children.”

[ [link removed] ]Politico headline about proposed GOP plan to defund Medicare.

The cat is out of the bag,
everyone.
Republicans don’t have any plans to drive down costs for your family or
improve your health outcomes.

But what they do have is a plan to dramatically downsize Medicaid, ripping
away coverage from as many as 20 million Americans, in order to finance
Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s tax giveaway for billionaires and
corporations (as it currently stands if you make less than $360,000 a year
you will not benefit from this plan).

Which is why we’re going to hit them where it hurts to STOP them: [ [link removed] ]We’ll
explain further below and ask, if you’re able, to donate to power our
upcoming efforts targeting vulnerable Republicans on matters like saving
Medicaid, public health agencies, and our scientific institutions.

Fact: House Republicans have the smallest House majority since World War 2
(we only need to flip 3 out of 435 seats to win a majority). And 30+ of
these Republicans represent districts where Democrats came within single
digits of winning or have carried the district recently. These are the
Republicans most likely to break with their Party because they represent
swing and formerly Democratic districts.

Fact: The American people – including conservatives and Trump voters –
OPPOSE cuts to Medicaid. In a recent poll, 70% of American voters said
they would view House Republicans negatively if they tried to gut
Medicaid; that includes a majority of independents and nearly 45% of Trump
voters.

Fact: Red states benefit the most from Medicaid, would be impacted the
most by cuts, and nearly 40% of Republican voters are either on Medicaid
or have a family member on Medicaid.

So: We will be targeting the most vulnerable House Republicans in the
nation and reaching key swaths of voters in their district.

Our hope is that these Republicans – alarmed at the outrage they will be
witnessing and facing from their constituents – will join Democrats to
defend public health programs and agencies. We only need to win over three
of them. And we believe we can – the last time Republicans tried to do
this in 2017 and 2018 Democrats successfully STOPPED them!

care and public health and pressure vulnerable Republicans to reverse
course.
