In “Anti-Black Racism and Inefficacy in Temporary Staffing Agencies,” Lulit Shewan examines how temporary staffing agencies often engage in racist discrimination, refuse to fairly compensate workers, and exploit vulnerable communities. Kaelin Rapport’s “Fighting Fires through Coercion: The Criminalization and Exploitation of Black Laborers” examines the coercive labor of incarcerated Black people in California, which uses incarcerated individuals as young as 18 as firefighters.
