The administration has intensified its attacks on our communities, using unlawful tactics to arrest, detain, and deport longtime residents and new neighbors alike. The government is stripping away legal pathways to status and cutting off people’s access to lawyers.
NIJC is on the frontlines of this fight. With your support we are: - Providing Know Your Rights training to equip people with the information they need to protect themselves and their families. Recently, during a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid in Chicago, a homeowner who had attended an NIJC training knew his rights, recorded the officers, and successfully prevented an unlawful arrest.
- Litigating to stop unconstitutional enforcement practices. We built on our 2022 legal victory in Castañon Nava v. DHS, which challenged arbitrary arrests, to hold ICE accountable for continued violations and fight against mass deportations.
- Providing legal representation. NIJC attorneys recently intervened to halt the deportation of a mother of four, ensuring she could seek protection under the law rather than being permanently separated from her children.
