President's Message The role of school nurses has never been more critical as we navigate the evolving landscape of school health. A recent 2024 survey by NASN revealed that 87% of U.S. adults hold a favorable view of school nurses, and this number rose to 91% upon learning about the breadth of our responsibilities. This widespread recognition underscores the vital services that school nurses provide. Despite this recognition, challenges persist. Health disparities affect millions of children, with over 7.8 million aged 6-18 living in poverty and 3.3 million lacking health insurance in 2023. Additionally, one in four students manages chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or epilepsy. To address these issues, NASN remains steadfast in advocating for: Student well-being School nursing workforce Securing sustainable funding Evidence of school nursing value In line with our commitment to advocacy, I'm excited to announce the launch of our new podcast, "Beyond Bandaids," premiering next week. Our inaugural episode will delve into NASN's latest advocacy priorities, offering insights and discussions on how we can collectively advance the health and well-being of our students. Phillips, MPH, BSN, RN, NCSN, and current Colorado NASN Director, shared in a recent blog post how her extensive experience in pediatrics and pediatric advanced life support, along with her quick actions and sound judgment, saved a student's life and led to the diagnosis of a rare heart condition. This story underscores the vital role of school nurses in ensuring students have access to quality health care, allowing them to be healthy, safe, and ready to learn. It also urges advocating for policies that guarantee every child has access to a school nurse every day. Read the blog. We Want to See YOU!
