Folks, Last week, House Democrats stood shoulder to shoulder against President Trump’s billionaire-first budget. Every Democrat voted no — no to $880 million in Medicaid cuts, no to tax breaks for the wealthy, and no to further burdening the middle class.
Republicans are rigging the system against hardworking families, all to satisfy their billionaire donors. They’ve put Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, and more on the chopping block to make way for tax breaks for the 1%. House Democrats refuse to stand by as the GOP makes life harder and more expensive. As Democratic Whip, I’m committed to holding our united front against any attempts to disenfranchise the American people. We are meeting every attack, no matter the circumstances. Remote voting is no longer an option, so Rep. Brittany Pettersen — and her newborn child — traveled from Colorado to Washington to cast her vote. And Rep. Kevin Mullin, despite recovering from a recent surgery, blood clot and infection, also overcame extremely difficult circumstances to stand up for the American people and place his vote. Democrats will do whatever it takes to fight back. This budget is beyond harmful. Fair Shot is here to strengthen our Democratic coalition and eventually dismantle the harmful GOP trifecta so budgets like this one never make it past the House floor. While the Republican budget moves forward in the reconciliation process, we are not backing down in our fight.
