As an investigative reporter for the NBC4 Washington I-Team, Wilkins has won multiple Emmys, an Edward R. Murrow Award, and several other regional and national awards. In 2022 she was named Journalist of the Year for the Washington Association of Black Journalists. Wilkins was News4's founding Prince George's County Bureau Chief, has covered U.S. Presidential inaugurations, moderated U.S. Senate and gubernatorial debates, covered federal, state, and local elections, and politics.

Wilkins is also the President of SAG-AFTRA's Washington-Mid Atlantic Local and has served on the local board for more than a decade. She's also co-chair of the union's national broadcast steering committee, trustee for its SAG-AFTRA Health and AFTRA Pension plans, and is a shop steward at News4. She has been a member of SAG-AFTRA and its legacy AFTRA union since 1997.
