Even more complicated, the more ill a person becomes, the more they resist treatment (eating, in other words) and the more they want to die. Offering an anorexic assisted death is like offering her liposuction: her desire for it is a symptom of her illness."

At least one report out of Oregon reveals that pain is not a top five reason for a request. Rather, patients self-report reasons of disability and not wanting to be a burden. Patients who feel like a burden deserve better than their physician agreeing with them and sending them off with drugs to die." |
