Amanda Achtman, founder of Dying to Meet You, "Anorexia is complicated: it’s a mental illness that leads to physical complications, which exacerbate the mental ones, and so on. Even more complicated, the more ill a person becomes, the more they resist treatment (eating, in other words) and the more they want to die. Offering an anorexic assisted death is like offering her liposuction: her desire for it is a symptom of her illness."

Assisted Suicide is Not the Right Choice for New York

PRAF's Coalitions Director, Jessica Rodgers, writes, "The commentary imagines a quick, painless death, but that’s not reality for people in Oregon. At least one report out of Oregon reveals that pain is not a top five reason for a request. Rather, patients self-report reasons of disability and not wanting to be a burden. Patients who feel like a burden deserve better than their physician agreeing with them and sending them off with drugs to die."
