Did you catch Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress last night, John?
It was bonkers to say the least, but we’re not surprised.
Trump acted like the king he thinks he is, spending an hour and 40 minutes (the longest presidential address to Congress in history) spewing lies, misinformation, and cruel attacks toward his political enemies, immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, and others who don’t fit into his far-right vision for America.
The president made misleading claims about both the 2020 and 2024 elections while bragging about his administration’s roll-backs to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the mass firing of federal workers, massive cuts to humanitarian aid at home and abroad, trade wars with our allies that will soon hurt working families’ wallets, tax cuts for the wealthiest few, and destruction of environmental protections that keep our air and water clean.
Through all the lies, misinformation, and political jabs, Trump was trying to convince the country that his unprecedented power grabs and attacks on our democratic institutions, including the judiciary, were justified. They’re not.
If his first 44 days back in office are any indication, Trump and his far-right administration will continue to undermine the courts and push the limits of presidential power all for the sake of advancing their extreme Project 2025 agenda and boosting billionaires’ profits at the expense of everyday people.
