John,
In case you haven’t heard, Trump has successfully appointed former WWE CEO Linda McMahon to the Department of Education. Now we’re asking, what does she know about education? 🤔
Probably not much, considering Republicans have made it their mission to destroy the department entirely. They claim education should be managed entirely by the states, which we know isn’t the most effective approach.
McMahon claims “outstanding teachers are tired of political ideology in their curriculum and red tape on their desks.” Ummm, isn’t it Republicans who are restricting how schools around the country can talk about racism and history in the US???
The DOE doesn’t set the curriculum in the classroom, they provide critical resources that states cannot. This includes important financial and informational resources on gun violence prevention.
The DOE runs federal programs that improve school safety, expand mental health services, strengthen emergency management planning, and SO much more.
But none of that matters to the Trump administration. They just care about cutting costs to help billionaires out.
John, the only qualification that Linda McMahon has is spreading hate. She is the prime candidate for abolishing DEI initiatives and helping destroy the DOE. By taking this role, she’s putting key gun safety programs at risk.
Yesterday, she was officially confirmed, and has pledged to “respect the will of the American people and the President they elected, who has tasked us with accomplishing the elimination of bureaucratic bloat here at the Department of Education—a momentous final mission—quickly and responsibly.” Oooof.
We’re gearing up to protect our schools from the incoming damage she’s going to do, but we can’t do it alone. John, please chip in $5, $10, or even $25 to help us protect our schools.
Onwards,
Team March For Our Lives
Your Personal Invite To the Movement Fund 💌💙 At March For Our Lives, we call our monthly supporter program The Movement Fund. Why are monthly recurring donors so important? The amount of one-time individual donations we receive as an organization varies vastly from month to month. Without a steady stream of monthly donations coming in our door, it would be impossible to accurately plan our budgets, create long-term strategies to win a future free from gun violence, plan and execute on-the-ground organizing efforts, recruit and train more gun safety champions, and more. |
