Last night, during his address to the nation ( [link removed] ), President Trump had an opportunity to reassure millions of older Americans of his commitment to protect Social Security. Instead, he continued to promote the lie that there is massive waste, fraud and abuse at the Social Security Administration (SSA).

And today, seniors have every right to be concerned about the future of their earned benefits.

Dear Supporter,

During his address, President Trump attacked Social Security with baseless lies that unelected billionaire Elon Musk put in his head after he breached SSA’s database. The president cited “shocking levels of incompetence and probable fraud” in Social Security. He parroted Musk when he said that millions of people aged 140 years and older are receiving benefits.

It’s clear, Musk and the President do not understand Social Security’s database. Many of the numbers listed were either abandoned years ago or reflect a time when deaths were not regularly reported to SSA. Neither Musk nor the President have provided any evidence to support their claims of mass fraud. Just because people are listed in the database does not mean they are receiving benefits, as the Acting SSA Commissioner Lee Dudek has admitted.

Yet, with President Trump’s blessing, Elon Musk and his stooge running SSA are recklessly slashing the agency’s workforce by 12%. These harmful cuts will do nothing to protect Social Security, but they will do real harm to millions of older Americans counting on their benefits for a secure retirement.

Please chip in one urgent gift now to protect Social Security from being cut under the guise of waste, fraud and abuse! ( [link removed] )

According to the former SSA Administrator, Martin O’Malley, “Ultimately, you’re going to see the system collapse and an interruption of benefits,” O’Malley said. “I believe you will see that within the next 30 to 90 days.”

By pushing lies about Social Security, President Trump, Elon Musk and others ideologically opposed to this program are trying to undermine public support for Social Security, which would make the program vulnerable to deep cuts and radical “reforms.”

It’s a cynical ploy to convince the American public that it's not worth defending.

The President’s refusal to acknowledge the vital nature of America’s most popular and effective federal program speaks volumes about his priorities for American workers and retirees. Just last week, President Trump called the program “a scam.” And his policies continue to reflect his preference for boosting the interests of the wealthiest Americans and huge corporations at the expense of workers and retirees.

Right now the President and Musk are searching for trillions of dollars to pay for a permanent extension of the Trump-GOP tax cuts that mainly benefit millionaires, billionaires, and large, profitable corporations. Social Security is now more vulnerable than ever before to reckless cuts.

And it’s now clear, we simply cannot count on the President to lift a finger to stop Elon Musk’s assault on your earned benefits. That’s why the National Committee is counting on our million+ members and supporters to stand up and fight back against the agenda of those in Washington and on Wall Street who want to slash and weaken Social Security.

Please give one urgent gift today to help us organize, mobilize and make our voices heard on Capitol Hill! ( [link removed] )

Sincerely,

Max Richtman
