Dear John,
In case you missed it, messaging from the White House has been loud and clear that it intends to dismantle the Department of Education. With Linda McMahon now seated as the Secretary of Education, it's expected this work will get underway in earnest.

What's at stake in all this is essential funding for our public schools. McMahon and the administration have indicated they want to reduce, relocate, or end funding that supports schools and their services, especially schools with commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Per today's Minnesota Star Tribune: The state [of Minnesota]'s school systems receive $233 million from the federal government for special education services, and can ill afford to lose it: They already must use state general fund dollars to help cover the costs.

School Boards are the last line of defense when it comes to protecting and defending students. The School Board Integrity Project is committed to ensuring school boards are led with a commitment to respect, belonging, and learning.

Already in 2025, we're working with candidates across the country who are stepping up to run for their local school boards. With your help, we'll continue to recruit, support, and train school board members who will stand up for what's right: the quality of our students' educations.

Thanks for being in the fight with us,
