Overnight, Donald Trump’s reckless tariffs against imported goods from
Canada and Mexico officially went into effect, triggering a trade war.

risking higher prices
Economists agree that Trump’s tariffs would cost the average American
family hundreds — even thousands — of dollars.
And the stakes are especially high for New Mexicans.
Businesses in our state export billions of dollars of goods to Mexico.
Trump’s tariffs will result in less demand for New Mexico’s goods and less
commerce with our state’s top international trading partner.
That’s a big deal — it could impact about 14,000 jobs and well over 1,000
companies, many of them small and medium businesses that provide jobs for
families in our state. Those cross-border operations or partnerships will
be impacted, and so will their employees.
I know what it’s like to
decide between rent and groceries, and I understand the deep financial
pain Trump’s tariffs can bring to our families.
That’s why as Governor, I will fight fiercely for policies that will lower
costs for New Mexicans, strengthen our local economy, and make life easier
for our families and children.

movement today? Every dollar helps us build a future where New Mexicans
don’t have to struggle to get by.
