No More Work-From-Home? Newsom’s Bold Move Sparks Outrage!

United States: Governor Gavin Newsom has issued a resolute executive mandate dictating that all state agencies and departments that continue to permit remote work must enforce a minimum of four days of in-office attendance per week, effective July 1. Exemptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis, depending on specific circumstances.

“Engaging in direct, face-to-face collaboration fortifies our collective capacity—period,” Newsom asserted in an official pronouncement. “When we gather in person, collaboration is heightened, ingenuity is catalyzed, and accountability is reinforced. The result? Elevated public service, pioneering solutions, and improved outcomes for Californians, all while preserving a measure of flexibility,” as reported by CalMatters.

This directive is expected to escalate tensions between the governor and labor unions representing state employees, many of whom have resisted previous attempts to restrict remote work arrangements. Data from the governor’s office indicates that approximately 95,000 state workers still function in remote or hybrid capacities.
