Education is a basic human right.

Dear John,

Trump promised on the campaign trail that he would dismantle the U.S. Department of Education piece by piece. This impending erasure could happen any day now. We should be strengthening the Department of Education, not tearing it down.

Don’t Erase Our Public Schools!

Tell Congress to stop Trump from erasing the U.S. Department of Education.

TAKE ACTION

Stripping the U.S. Department of Education of funding and resources would threaten the stability of our education system and the future of millions of students. We can’t let this happen.

This dangerous attack on the Department of Education would include:

  • Drastic cuts to funding and support for schools, teachers, and students
  • An increase in unchecked discrimination against students based on sex, race, national origin, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and disability
  • Hundreds of thousands of teachers losing their jobs
  • The rollback of specialized services and programs for students with disabilities
  • Eliminating federal student aid and reasonable loan repayment options for college and graduate students
  • The disappearance of federal data that tracks and addresses gaps in education access and schools’ compliance with civil rights laws

Without a strong and equitable public education system, opportunities for students will be severely limited, communities destabilized, and pathways to the middle class destroyed. Tell Congress to fight for students, teachers, and families who rely on our public schools.

In solidarity,
