Dear John,
If you haven’t seen the news lately, I wanted to fill you in on the alarming and illegal activity that Trump and his Department of Government Efficiency have been up to as of late. Before I tell you the bad news, here’s the good news: [we CAN fight back]([link removed]).
Since Trump took office, Musk and DOGE have been hard at work gutting important agencies and arms of the government. First we saw them go after USAID, then we saw them illegally access the Department of Education’s system, putting millions of Americans’ sensitive information in their hands without any justification.
Next, Elon went and gutted the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which protects Americans from predatory practices from mortgage companies, lenders, and more. There is nothing efficient about destroying the CFPB, which has a history of giving billions of dollars back to American consumers.
We've learned that DOGE has gained access to a part of the US Treasury Department - specifically the one that is responsible for disbursing over 70 million Americans’ Social Security payments. We now know that Elon wants to “investigate” the Social Security Administration, and honestly, I’m concerned. We can’t let Musk eliminate the system that so many Americans depend on, and have been putting their hard-earned money into for decades.
I know things are scary right now, and Trump and Musk are using fear and intimidation to make us give up. At this moment, what we need to do now more than ever is FIGHT BACK. We have to keep building a movement and a Democratic Party that is prepared to mobilize against whatever they throw our way, and keep supporting Democrats who are leading in their communities.
