Leadership

Greetings, readers!

This week’s Leadership newsletter comes as we at NPQ take a couple of weeks to recalibrate and strengthen our infrastructure to build power in 2025. We want to be prepared for the perils and possibilities ahead as the nonprofit sector is pulled into the chaos and potential punishment that has characterized much of the Trump administration’s policies so far—at least where our sector is concerned.

First, if the old saying that crisis creates opportunity is true, then there is a lot of opportunity in the current moment. Next, Kim Tran reflects on how “passing the mic” to under-represented populations and people doesn’t always mean genuine sharing of power and access. Then, our own Steve Dubb examines how foundations can align assets with mission in three case studies.

Finally, another reminder to check out—and contribute to—our new fundraising advice column, “Ask Rhea,” featuring fundraising whiz Rhea Wong. If you have questions for Rhea, you can submit them here.

As always, thanks so much for reading. Please feel free to email me with tips, pitches, and feedback at [email protected].

Yours truly,
Isaiah Thompson
