“Extreme fire danger, 50 mph gusts aim for South Texas Tuesday,” San Antonio Express-News' Anthony Franze — “A strong low pressure system is moving over the Desert Southwest Monday, heading east toward the Lone Star State. This weather system will provide the energy necessary to initiate strong thunderstorms in parts of North and East Texas, as well as create extreme fire danger across much of South-Central and West Texas. The front will crash into San Antonio between 6 and 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. Winds will strengthen behind the front, bringing dry air into the city. Sustained wind speeds of 25 to 35 mph are expected in San Antonio through the middle of the day. Gusts will be even stronger, reaching 45 to 55 mph at times. The westerly winds will cause humidity values to plummet between 5 to 15% through much of the afternoon. That, along with the strong winds, will result in extreme fire danger across South Texas. Temperatures will also be warm, topping out in the mid- to upper 70s.
