Donald Trump will address a joint session of Congress tomorrow. If he brings up Social Security, it will be to lie that he will protect it. But fewer and fewer people believe he will protect our earned benefits, because he’s outsourced his policy agenda to the richest man in the world, who thinks our Social Security system is an example of criminal behavior by the government.

This is hardly the first time Elon Musk has exhibited his utter contempt for Social Security. Immediately after the election, he amplified a twitter thread from Sen. Mike Lee³ who had previously stated his aim for Social Security was to “pull it up by the roots and get rid of it.”⁴

Donald Trump is the politician practiced in ‘smooth evasion.’ His decision to empower Elon Musk to take a wrecking ball to our Social Security system is exactly what FDR warned us about.
