Longtime anti-vaxxer RFK Jr. now urging Americans to get a measles shot as deadly outbreak grips Texas
Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. pulled a stunning about-face over the weekend, publishing a "call to action" opinion editorial to voice his "deep concern" over the current spread of measles in Texas. Just last week Kennedy downplayed measles outbreaks as “not unusual," but on Sunday — in response to a disturbing outbreak in Texas that led to the first measles death in more than a decade — he began singing a different tune, urging Americans to get vaccinated. How will Kennedy's most vocal anti-vaxx supporters take this news? Hopefully sitting down, in a doctor's office, accepting decades of overwhelming evidence supporting the safety and efficacy of vaccines in general.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Another Republican town hall descends into mayhem
We have witnessed a raft of Republicans facing increasingly hostile crowds composed of their own constituents at town halls across the country, but this one really stands out. Roll the tape and you'll certainly see why...

Congress plots devastating clean energy rollback
EDF Action: Your ability to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and afford clean energy is in jeopardy as some politicians have made it clear they are hell-bent on undoing all of the efforts made to create a healthy future for our families and communities. Will you add your name to tell Congress to protect our clean air and water from polluters?
Trump announces strategic crypto reserve including bitcoin, Solana, XRP and more
The value of Bitcoin was plunging over the weekend, and Trump's rich cronies were set to lose a boatload. So what did the MAGA cult leader do? He announced the creation of a US "strategic reserve" of five major cryptocurrencies (BTC, SOL, ETH, ADA, and XRP) and — surprise! — Bitcoin shot up by $14,000 in THREE DAYS. Trump is going to prop up the fortunes of cryptoscammers by spending our public money while gutting the social safety net. It's a wealth transfer directly to the richest Americans that should have EVERYONE insanely pissed off.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth orders a halt to offensive cyber operations against Russia
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered US Cyber Command to halt offensive cyber operations and information operations against Russia, a US official familiar with the matter said. It is unclear clear how long the order will last. A senior US defense official declined to comment on the decision "due to operational security concerns." Interestingly, the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, which is housed in the Department of Homeland Security, said in a statement that its "mission is to defend against all cyber threats to US Critical Infrastructure, including from Russia. There has been no change in our posture." We here at Daily Dose of Democracy are all for detentes and a general lowering of geopolitical temperatures, but such actions really should be reciprocal. Nothing suggests a mutual agreement on cyber disruptions with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has been reached, and the Biden administration last year labeled Russia "an enduring global cyber threat," pointing to the sustained targeting of US government agencies, think tanks, energy, and aviation by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service.

British Prime Minister Starmer says Europe is at "crossroads in history" as leaders agree to steps to Ukraine peace
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer rallied his European counterparts Sunday to shore up their borders and throw their full weight behind Ukraine as he announced outlines of a plan to end Russia’s war. Starmer’s exhortation to 18 fellow leaders that they need to do the heavy lifting for their own security comes two days after US backing of Ukraine appeared in jeopardy when Donald Trump lashed out at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and said he wasn’t grateful enough for America’s support. The meeting had been overshadowed by the extraordinary scolding that took place on live television at the White House. Starmer used the opportunity as part of his broader effort to bridge the gap between Europe and the US and also salvage what had seemed like the start of a peace process before Friday’s altercation.
GOP senator follows Mike Johnson on "Meet the Press" and promptly rejects House speaker’s suggestion that Zelenskyy should quit
Someone at the Trump White House might wanna circle back and make sure everyone in the GOP is getting the same marching orders. This difference of opinion and freedom of expression could be quite dangerous to the MAGA cult leader's plans to rule like a king with unchecked authority.

BTC leads collective of progressive creators with plan to take back the internet from Joe Rogan and the right-wing machine
Chorus: This election has made it painfully clear that Democrats' messages are just not getting through the tsunami of right-wing propaganda and lies flooding through social media, and we have no real answer to a Joe Rogan or a Ben Shapiro...until now! Chorus Collective is a new collaborative founded by creators like Brian Tyler Cohen, Leigh McGowan (Politics Girl), Roland Martin, David Pakman, Elizabeth Booker Houston, and Adam Mockler, who are bringing their audience of 40 million people together to create a new infrastructure to scale their voices and build support for more creators like them. Chorus aims to not only amplify progressive voices but also uplift new creators and build a left-wing social media ecosystem that supports its voices ALL the time, not just in the months leading up to an election. Will you chip in to help Chorus get off the ground and help break the right-wing stranglehold on social media?
Crews battle wildfires in North and South Carolina amid dry conditions and gusty winds
Whomever is operating the country's nefarious weather satellites and disaster lasers now that Republicans have full control of the federal government should probably let Marjorie Taylor Greene know what's going on so she doesn't unwittingly attack one of her own MAGA allies over the widespread destruction currently sweeping across the Carolinas. That could get awkward!
Kremlin says US foreign policy now "aligns" with Moscow's vision

Centrist Democratic group rails against leftist identity politics and purity tests
Right-wing Democrats recently held a retreat in Virginia, where they decided that — shocker — the 2024 election defeat was the fault of crazy far-left activists and staffers making unreasonable, extremist demands like standing up for LGBTQ rights and taxing billionaires, and not the people at the very top of the party who have all the power and actually made all of the decisions. Their solution? Embrace "traditional American imagery," get into "real communities" like uh, gun shows, and shift fundraising focus away from small-dollar donors and towards the wealthy instead. Hey, if you can't beat Republicans, just become them! The "far-left" boogeyman might make for a convenient whipping boy to excuse away the complete failure of establishment and moderate Democrats to succeed in winnable elections, but if we ever want things to change and start WINNING again, we must have an internal reckoning about what this party actually stands for and who it really represents.

Doom and doomer
But wait, there's (always) more
Hope...
