This Week’s Topline

REPORT: Extremist Murders Dropped in 2024, But 2025 Data Is Already Grim

For the third year in a row, murders in the United States connected to extremism have declined, according to ADL’s latest Murder and Extremism Report. Domestic extremists were involved in the killing of at least 13 people in 2024, a significant drop from the 20 extremist-related murders in 2023.

Murder and Extremism report

However, this trend will not continue. ADL has already documented 15 extremist-related murders in 2025 so far, 14 of them stemming from the deadly vehicular terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day, the first mass killing incident by a domestic Islamist extremist since 2017.

The new report found that all extremist-related killings of 2024 were connected to right-wing extremism, with eight of the 13 killings involving white supremacists and the remaining five having connections to far-right anti-government extremists. The New Orleans attack is a troubling development, especially if it marks the beginning of a trend of increased homegrown Islamist violence rather than a one-off event.

What’s News

Buried But Not Missed: ADL’s Jonathan Greenblatt writes a stinging op-ed with a message to those who would mourn Hezbollah arch-terrorist Hassan Nasrallah, who was recently re-buried after a public funeral.

“Nasrallah, the deceased leader of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorist organization, was a fanatic who spread antisemitism, extremism, and violence across the Middle East and beyond. His enduring legacy is one of death — thousands of Jews, Israelis, Lebanese, Syrians, Yemenis, and others fell victim to his reign of terror. His burial deserves no reverence, only the cold judgment of history.”

EVENT: For Concerned Parents of High School Students: With antisemitism on the rise globally and on campus, it’s essential to prepare yourself and your teens for college life. Join ADL Education for Unfiltered: Jewish Realities and Resilience on Campus, a three-part series of interactive workshops designed for Jewish 11th and 12th graders and their parents/caregivers. Throughout this webinar series, which starts on March 10, you and your high schooler will gain knowledge and skills on different aspects of Jewish life and realities of campus antisemitism. You can sign up for each session here.

MAKING PROGRESS WITH ADL

Connecting in Connecticut: This week, ADL’s Connecticut Regional Director Stacey Sobel was in Hartford to testify in support of a groundbreaking state bill “To Establish a Working Group to Address Antisemitism in Schools.” This significant bill would establish a working group of Jewish communal stakeholders and educators to help schools in the state to better address issues relating to antisemitism that affect students, families, educators and school personnel; it comes after the state has seen a 670% increase in antisemitic incidents in the past four years, including an alarming number in K-12 schools. We are proud that ADL is named in the legislation as a permanent member of the working group, and we appreciate everyone in the ADL Connecticut community who wrote to the state legislature with their testimony about the importance of this bill. You can read the draft bill here.

Take Action Today

Speak up now with ADL! Urge the White House to Protect Jewish Institutions. The Trump administration’s proposed FEMA cuts could leave synagogues and other places of worship vulnerable, stripping vital security funding that protects them from extremist threats such as bomb threats, harassment and cyber-attacks. Join ADL in urging the White House to keep the Nonprofit Security Grant Program off the chopping block.
