Last week, The Center joined eight other LGBTQ+, health, and HIV organizations in suing the Trump Administrationchallenging recent Executive Orders that seek to dehumanize and erase transgender people and defund The Center and other organizations that serve them.
The lawsuit challenges three executive orders that seek to erase transgender people from public life, terminate equity-related grants, and forbid federally-funded entities from engaging in diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility programs or from recognizing the existence of transgender people.
These executive orders threaten the vital services we provide to one of the nation’s largest and most diverse LGBTQ+ communities and are an affront to us all.

Co-founded by leaders of CaribbeanEquality Project, Tarab NYC, SALGA NYC, and Muslim Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity, in partnership with The Center and the Commission on Human Rights.

Pat Parker: Movement In Black
The Center’s library namesake, black lesbian poet Pat Parker is an uncompromising voice in both the Black and LGBTQ+ communities. Through her poetry, Parker tackled racism, sexism, homophobia, and injustice with sharp wit and raw honesty.

E. Lynn Harris: Not a Day Goes By, Invisible Life
Harris, an openly gay Black author, wrote groundbreaking adult novels exploring the complexities of Black queer identity. Though he passed away in 2009, his legacy lives on through his many works available in our library. Steering committee member Victor recommends Not a Day Goes By: "An enlightening look into the life of a bisexual Black man in early 2000s NYC. Highly recommend it!’

Chinelo Okparanta: Under the Udala Trees
Okparanta, a Nigerian author and award-winning writer, explores themes of queerness and resilience. Volunteer Kevwe shares why Under the Udala Treesleft an impact: "Heart-wrenching yet hopeful, the novel uses religion—often weaponized against queerness—to offer divine assurance. As a Queer teen raised in the Church, it showed me a future where I didn’t need to shrink myself to love and be loved. If you've ever felt the need to dim your light, this book is for you."

The 54th Annual New York State Legislative Conference
This month, The Center, in partnership with a coalition of LGBTQ+ organizations, hosted Our New York: The State of Liberty at the 54th Annual NYS Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, & Asian Legislative Conference in Albany. This year’s reception and award ceremony was a call to reclaim New York’s social justice roots in defense of every New Yorker, especially our vulnerable TGNC community.
