It’s Rep. Robin Kelly, and I’m proud to have served Illinois’ 2nd District in Congress since 2013. I’m also proud to be one of this year’s IDCCA Party Builder Award Honorees.

I understand the power of local government, and the power of building a strong party – because I’ve spent my career doing it. I’ve had the honor of serving Illinois in the State House, as the Chief of Staff to the State Treasurer, and in the office of the Cook County President. I also previously served as Chair of the Democratic Party of Illinois – becoming the first woman and African American elected to that position.

Here’s how I see it: the key to building our party is to focus on solutions that would uplift all communities, whether they’re urban, suburban, or rural.

I believe that focusing on issues that matter most to folks, is the key to bringing them back to the Democratic party – issues like investing in infrastructure, creating jobs, gun violence prevention, and access to affordable, quality healthcare.
