Video obtained by KTLA shows the aftermath of the crash – which involved the Corvette and a fire hydrant – near the intersection of Fairfax Avenue and Beverly Boulevard in L.A.’s Fairfax neighborhood around 11 p.m. Friday. The classic car, which has black exterior and red interior, sheared a fire hydrant on Beverly after the driver apparently lost control. MyNewsLA 9 Mexican nationals face federal charges for alleged train burglary A federal grand jury indicted 11 suspects, nine of whom were undocumented Mexican nationals, for allegedly burglarizing a train destined for California. The heist happened on Jan. 13 in a remote area of northern Arizona after Noe Cecena-Castro and 10 other suspects allegedly cut an air hose on a BNSF train, forcing it to make an emergency stop. A BNSF police officer drove by the area shortly after the emergency stop and found several Nike shoe boxes at the side of the tracks, according to the Department of Justice. Federal prosecutors said several people were seen loading a U-Haul with Nike boxes. Investigators later stopped a U-Haul box truck and a Ford Econoline truck spotted driving near the train. Officers stopped a Chevy Tahoe that was passing through the area and allegedly carrying the rest of the heist crew. The U.S. Attorney's Office in Phoenix said law enforcement found 1,985 pairs of unreleased Nike shoes worth over $440,000 in the suspects' trucks. The grand jury also charged nine of the suspects of entering the country illegally. All of the suspects will be held in federal custody until the trial. CBS 2 2 Virginia police officers fatally shot during traffic stop Officers Cameron Girvin and Christopher Reese were working the midnight traffic patrol shift late Friday night when they noticed a car with an expired inspection sticker and attempted to pull it over. After the driver of the blue Hyundai Sonata failed to stop, the officers continued to follow the vehicle into a townhouse complex near the intersection of Lynnhaven Parkway and Wendfield Drive, in the Green Run area, according to Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate. Both officers approached the car after it stopped and asked the driver to get out, Neudigate said. The man, however, refused. He began to argue with them, and a “tussle” broke out, the chief said. It ended moments later when the man pulled a pistol from his pocket and shot both officers. “The officers fell to the ground,” Neudigate said. “While on the ground, defenseless, he shot them each a second time.” The shooting was captured by both officers’ body-worn cameras, as well as a dashboard-mounted camera in their police cruiser, the chief said. The Virginian-Pilot Man sentenced to life in prison in deadly beating of Arizona deputy A 34-year-old man accused in a deadly attack on an Arizona sheriff’s deputy was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison, prosecutors said. Clinton Hurley pleaded guilty to 16 charges, including first-degree murder, following the 2021 attack that led to the death of Maricopa County Sheriff’s Deputy Juan “Johnny” Ruiz, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said in a Feb. 21 news release. McClatchy News reached out to Hurley’s attorney Feb. 21 and was awaiting a response. The attack happened at a sheriff’s substation in Avondale, where Hurley was taken after an arrest in connection with multiple felony warrants, prosecutors said. Ruiz removed the handcuffs Hurley was wearing in order to put him in a cell, and Hurley became “combative” and attacked Ruiz, prosecutors said. “During the struggle, Hurley hit Deputy Ruiz several times with the blunt end of a pair of medical shears and punched him repeatedly as the deputy was lying on the floor,” according to prosecutors. Hurley took Ruiz’s patrol car and used one of the deputy’s guns in an attempted carjacking, prosecutors said. He eventually stole a different car, and “he was captured later that night in Tonopah after firing shots at a family outside a home and being shot by the homeowner,” according to prosecutors. One man was left in a coma after his encounter with Aurora and three others died, according to the FBI. “We’ve known each other for 14 years and she’s never shown a sign or an ounce of this,” said William in an interview with The Times. “If she did do it, damn, she put one over on me.” Prosecutors unsealed an indictment in Nevada Federal Court this month charging Aurora with more than 20 counts related to the scheme, including charges of wire fraud, bank fraud, kidnapping and kidnapping resulting in death.
