John,
We just passed the first hurdle of the legislative session—passing the RCV Local Option Bill out of the Senate Elections Committee! This bill (SF 1071)—authored by Sen. Jim Carlson with co-authors Sens. Westlin, Cwodzinski, and Hauschild—would give all cities, school districts, and counties the option to adopt RCV if they wish and experience the benefits of a more inclusive and representative democracy. The measure is so popular, it has been “cloned” and signed by 10 additional senators showing their support!
Meanwhile, Representative Cedrick Frazier has introduced a corresponding bill (HF 683) in the House, with the backing of 18 colleagues—and the support continues to grow.
But we’re up against efforts to pre-empt RCV in Minnesota. Part of a larger, national trend, RCV ban bills have been introduced in the House and Senate in Minnesota. We’re also remaining vigilant and ready for any attempts by the federal government to restrict the use of RCV nationwide. Whether in the state legislature or in Congress, we’ve come too far to let them take away our progress.
We need your help to pass this bill in the Senate and defend RCV against anti-reform forces. And right now, your gift will be MATCHED dollar for dollar up to $20,000—but only until the end of the month. We're over halfway there, but we need your support to close the gap!
💜 Will you donate today to help us reach our goal and secure the future of RCV in Minnesota?

Our bill has cleared the first hurdle by passing the Senate Elections Committee. With your help and support, we can continue to make progress towards giving all Minnesota municipalities the right to adopt RCV. Stay tuned for details on our next hearing!
With gratitude,
