Hi John,
"It's been Christmas every morning," says a jubilant Pastor Doug Wilson regarding the second Trump administration -- as rational Americans struggle to navigate the intentional chaos, cruelty, and criminality of the past month.
In addition to our state and local work (see below), I maintain my equilibrium in these difficult times because of the strong leadership of Jared Huffman (CA-2)[[link removed]], Jamie Raskin (MD-8)[[link removed]] and the other members of the Congressional Freethought Caucus. We are proud to provide support for this Caucus and its members, and I'm happy to announce the newest CFC member Andrea Salinas (OR-6)[[link removed]].
During this extraordinary time, we are doing our part to make sure our democracy survives by being active in 2025 state and local elections and in state legislatures to advance our policy priorities.
Please support our efforts to help more elected officials identify and ally with the humanist and atheist community and to promote our public policies with a donation to the Center for Freethought Equality today[[link removed]]!
This year, there are several special Congressional elections, state legislative and executive races in New Jersey and Virginia, and municipal elections across the country. See what elections are happening in your area by using the League of Women Voters Vote411[[link removed]].
Your financial support will help us counter the white Christian Nationalism driving the MAGA movement and make America safer, saner, and more secular -- please make an investment in our future today![[link removed]]
The Center for Freethought Equality is also pleased to announce that we are joining forces with the Association of Secular Elected Officials[[link removed]] to provide support to humanist, atheist, agnostic, and other nonreligious elected officials to advance positive public policies, build networks of like-minded public officials, and encourage more elected officials to publicly identify with our community. Earlier this month ASEO and its operations and programs were incorporated into CFE.
ASEO has a Policy Hub, developed with the support of CFE, where elected officials and allied organizations have provided model legislation that can be used by ASEO members in their own states and localities. There are now over 25 policy issues explored on the Policy Hub with video presentations by elected officials, model legislation, regulatory guidance, and more to provide our growing network of members with the resources they need to advance policies that make a positive impact for their constituents and our society at large.
This work is already producing results.
We have been working closely with Oregon Representative Rob Nosse[[link removed]] on his introduction of HB 2268, which would increase transparency requirements for health care cost sharing arrangements operating within the state. Health care cost sharing arrangements, sometimes referred to as health care sharing ministries, operate across the United States with 1.7 million enrollees and counting. They are often religious organizations that advertise as health insurance options; however, unlike health insurance, these entities are not required to pay medical claims, and often deny or reject coverage based on religious or moral grounds. We are working in four other states to introduce similar legislation.
Support the work of CFE's ASEO Project by making a generous donation today![[link removed]]
Sincerely,
Ron Millar
Political & PAC Manager
