Nuclear Ban Week New York

Hi Friend,

Starting this Saturday, governments, civil society, scientists, affected community representatives, artists and activists will gather in New York to work on the best solution we have to ending the nuclear threat: the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW)!

At the third meeting of states parties - or 3MSP for short -  we expect states to take a stand against the heightened nuclear threat, and do the substantive work to build on the treaty’s vision of the total elimination of nuclear weapons.  We have already seen a lot of progress since the last MSP in 2023 across many of the 50 points in the action plan! And of course, as the world marks the 80th anniversary since the start of the nuclear threat, ICAN and many of our partners will be there to make sure the states stay ambitious and on track.

If you will be in New York for Nuclear Ban Week, make sure to check out the full event calendar, as we are expecting dozens of civil society and government convened events on a variety of topics, from nuclear justice to art to youth engagement.

If you can’t join in person, don’t worry. We have you covered so you can follow from home! ICAN’s  “MSP-TV” will be back to provide you 3 moments to catch up from Nuclear Ban Week and the 3MSP on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at noon EST (find your timezone here).  Of course UN Web TV will also be broadcasting the meeting from March 3, if you want to follow statements in the room by the minute.  And if you want to be part of the buzz, make sure you are following and engaging with ICAN's social media:

The coming two weeks are going to be very busy for everyone at ICAN, but we hope the treaty and our campaign come out stronger than ever, and ready to keep doing the real work of nuclear disarmament.

Stay tuned,
