Brown Distributing Company delivers hand sanitizer

Virginia beer distributor Brown Distributing Company delivered a donation of almost 7,000 bottles of Anheuser-Busch hand sanitizer to Virginia Emergency Services to aid first responders in the fight against COVID-19.

Grocery delivery growth flattens but curbside pickup increases

According to a recent Gallup poll, the percentage of U.S. consumers who said they're using grocery delivery more now than a month ago grew in late March to mid-April, but then stayed the same when consumers were polled again in mid-May. However, curbside pickup from stores, including grocery and non-grocery locations, increased 17 percentage points over that time period, from 19% to 36%.

2.1 million file jobless claims, but total unemployed shrinks

First-time claims for unemployment benefits totaled 2.1 million last week, the lowest total since the pandemic began. That decline in continuing claims “suggests that the reopening of states is pushing businesses to rehire some of the people let go when the virus hit,” said Ian Shepherdson, chief economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics.

A 103-year-old Massachusetts woman recovered from COVID-19. The nursing staff gave her an ice cold beer to celebrate, something she loved but hadn’t had in a long time, her relatives said.
