John,
This is not a drill. The Trump administration is attacking the Department of Education. As you’re reading this email, they’re drafting an executive order to defund it.
This is a part of the scummy Project 2025 plan. Since 2023, Trump has been coming for the DOE. He claims it’s a problem because it “force-feeds” children “anti-American ideologies” that will cause them to “hate” this country.
*pause*
What? 😵💫
Anyway…this abuse of power will only harm our students.
Schools are a safe haven — period. They are a place for students to learn and grow, not fear for their lives.
The DOE runs federal programs that improve school safety, expand mental health services, strengthen emergency management planning, and SO much more.
Tons of grants live within the DOE that go toward school violence prevention, including funding for mental health services from the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
One of the worst things we’re seeing is that Project 2025 plans to eliminate Title I funding entirely. This funding is overseen by the DOE and goes directly to low-income schools.
Gun violence disproportionately impacts low-income communities. If the DOE is eliminated, vulnerable communities will have to say goodbye to pre-K, after-school programs, counselors, technology…and the list goes on.
But Trump doesn’t give a damn about our students’ safety or if they get to eat lunch every day. He’d rather uplift a “patriotic agenda” written by him and his billionaire friends, who, by the way, couldn’t care less about public schools since their kids don’t attend them.
We know what real patriotism is: it’s safe schools, where teachers are free to teach and students are free to learn without worrying about gun violence.
Onwards,
March For Our Lives
Your Personal Invite To the Movement Fund 💌💙 At March For Our Lives, we call our monthly supporter program The Movement Fund. Why are monthly recurring donors so important? The amount of one-time individual donations we receive as an organization varies vastly from month to month. Without a steady stream of monthly donations coming in our door, it would be impossible to accurately plan our budgets, create long-term strategies to win a future free from gun violence, plan and execute on-the-ground organizing efforts, recruit and train more gun safety champions, and more. |
