Hi John,
We are really ruffling some feathers this year. DxE activists across the Bay Area are disrupting businesses that sell chickens from Petaluma Poultry, the California subsidiary of national poultry giant Perdue Foods where DxE investigators have documented criminal animal cruelty including evidence of birds being boiled alive.
Last year DxE activists got both of Petaluma Poultry's celebrity ambassadors to cut ties with the company. On top of that, Petaluma Poultry had to deal with a historic factory farm ban ballot measure that posed a major risk to their factory farm operations in Sonoma County. We put Petaluma Poultry on the defense and right in the spotlight -- and now, we are cranking up the pressure.
Animal rescuer Zoe Rosenberg goes on trial this May facing prison time for rescuing four sick chickens from Perdue's Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse. As the Perdue Rescue Trial approaches, hundreds of activists are set to participate in sustained protests to disrupt Petaluma Poultry's business network across the Bay Area and beyond.
Just this weekend, activists disrupted the dinner services of two high-end restaurants in San Jose and Mill Valley, after those restaurants ignored emails urging them to cut ties with Petaluma Poultry. Another restaurant activists contacted is currently looking into our reports. We also disrupted Trader Joe's, asking them to drop Petaluma Poultry as a supplier, and a video we posted about the campaign has gotten 850,000 views! It even reached Paris Hilton, who added her voice to the campaign, commenting “Trader Joe’s please do the right thing and cut ties with Petaluma Poultry.” This in turn led to a news article about the campaign that just came out this morning in The San Francisco Standard.
As we protest at the stores and restaurants that sell Petaluma Poultry's victims, we are also going straight to the infamous slaughterhouse that churns out these victims. Every week in January, activists held nighttime vigils at the Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse to bear witness, which majorly disrupted the company's schedule. As long as people are there ready to document the condition that birds arrive in at the slaughterhouse, the company halts all planned slaughter truck deliveries. They are so scared of people seeing the truth that they are willing to rearrange their schedules and halt their operations because of our presence. Next month, we are planning twice as many vigils. There will be no business as usual for Petaluma Poultry. |

This January, we also held our first home demonstration outside the home of the slaughterhouse director Jason Arnold, which got lots of his neighbors asking us questions. We requested a meeting with Mr. Arnold to discuss the animal cruelty that has been documented at his slaughterhouse, but he refused to speak to us. Instead, he called the police. We continued to exercise our right to protest peacefully -- and we will continue to do so until Jason Arnold finally addresses the evidence or resigns from his position with Perdue. |

January was filled with protests, vigils, and online actions -- and even more is planned for February.
If you haven't already, please join our Action Team on Signal to participate in coordinated online actions against Perdue's Petaluma Poultry, and invite your friends to join, too!
It’s going to take a lot of people working over a long time, but eventually we will see Petaluma Poultry shut down, and big animal abusers will see the tide is changing. By pressuring Perdue out of California, we will add power to the burgeoning animal rights movement and reduce opposition for state legislators to pass increasingly impactful animal protection legislation. California has led the way with the nation’s first statewide fur ban. Factory farms are the next to go.
In solidarity,
