Welcome to our Team Tillis newsletter, where we discuss what Thom has been up to from the campaign trail to Capitol Hill, and everything in between! |
| | Friend, The work to restore common-sense policies and reinstate conservative leadership continues. Thom has been running full steam ahead, helping Republicans roll back Biden’s disastrous policies with meaningful legislation. One of the highlights of the week was watching President Donald J. Trump sign the Laken Riley Act into law. Thom was proud to be a co-sponsor on this bill, which ensures illegal immigrants who commit serious crimes will be deported. Slowly but surely, we are making progress in restoring safety in our communities. While the fight hasn’t been easy, Thom has also been at the forefront of President Trump’s cabinet confirmation hearings. Democrats and the media can try to distract and derail, but Thom is committed to delivering for the North Carolinians who voted for resounding change. He continues to ask important questions and provide thoughtful analysis to help this powerhouse cabinet come to fruition. With a Republican majority, we finally have the opportunity to undo the damage of the last four years—and Thom is proud to lead the charge! -Team Tillis

On The Hill: Thom Introduces Kash Patel at Nomination Hearing for FBI Director
|
The numbers don’t lie: Americans’ trust in the FBI has plummeted from 57% to just 41% over the past five years. The agency needs a full-fledged overhaul, and Kash Patel is the man for the job. Thom spent months getting to know Kash—and that’s exactly why he took the task of leading this week’s hearing. He is determined to get this confirmation across the finish line and won’t let the Left derail it with baseless attacks. Unlike past FBI directors who failed to break the cycle of politicization, Kash brings a bold, fresh approach to restoring integrity and accountability at the FBI. As Thom put it, Democrats threw their usual cheap shots, but Kash didn’t even flinch. He demonstrated poise, confidence, and a sharp understanding of the challenges ahead. There’s no doubt he’ll bring that same steady demeanor to the agency and turn the page on years of political weaponization. |
Confirmations: Supporting Pam Bondi for Attorney General
|
Thom continues to advocate for Pam Bondi to serve as Attorney General, who will hopefully be confirmed next week. Throughout her distinguished career as a prosecutor, Pam worked relentlessly to take dangerous criminals off the streets and protect communities, and there’s no doubt that she will uphold the law fairly and without bias. As Florida’s Attorney General, Pam earned bipartisan support for her unwavering advocacy on behalf of victims of the opioid crisis while also leading successful efforts to dismantle drug cartels, combat organized crime, and strengthen public safety across the state. Pam’s vast experience and clear vision make her uniquely qualified to serve as our nation’s top law enforcement officer, and Thom looks forward to voting to confirm her on the Senate floor! |
Legislative Highlights: Disaster Mitigation and Tax Parity Act of 2025
|
Thom came together with several of his Senate colleagues this week to introduce the Disaster Mitigation and Tax Parity Act of 2025, a bipartisan bill that will make it easier for homeowners to protect their properties from natural disasters—without getting hit with extra taxes. Right now, if you get financial help from a state program to make your home more disaster-resistant, that money can be taxed as income. This bill fixes that by making sure those payments aren’t taxed, giving families more incentive to make critical improvements that could save lives and reduce damage. As Thom put it, this is just common sense. By cutting unnecessary taxes, we’re helping American families strengthen their financial outlook, rebuild their homes after disasters like Hurricane Helene, and be better prepared for the future. → Read more: Proposal: No federal income tax on catastrophe loss mitigation programs (The Center Square) |
