Hi, John,
As of Monday, January 20, 2025, we are in Trump’s America. Immediately following his inauguration, Trump began signing executive orders targeting Black and other communities and turning back the clock on 60+ years of progress for Black, LGBT+, Women and other historically disenfranchised communities in the United States of America. The initiatives and policies targeted prove that the fears of Project 2025 are materializing in front of us, and are exposing the reality of this country. Join Us This Black History Month For Our National Squad Call on Thursday, February 13 — we will explore actionable steps to preserve our cultural legacy and push back against the neo-segregationist movement. >> [link removed]
Prior to his election supporters of Trump and other right-wing extremists uplifted the mission of Project 2025. In short, if executed the manifesto will hijack our democracy, reshape the federal government, and negatively impact Black and marginalized communities for years to come. Trump and his supporters put a bullseye on a cornucopia of progressive initiatives, aiming to undo all the impact and advances made.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives have been an ongoing target for Trump and his supporters, and on inauguration day he signed an executive order ending such initiatives in the federal government. On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, he revoked the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1965 signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson, which prohibited hiring discrimination on the basis of race, religion, disability, sex, color, marital or familial status, as well as national origin. The inklings of anti-diversity and inclusion began, following the Supreme Court decision to rule against Affirmative Action. As the precedent was set corporations soon followed to cut their inclusion efforts.Trump ending D.E.I on a federal scale major corporations will only be emboldened to end diversity initiatives and enforce biased and exclusionary hiring practices.
Trump also signed an executive order denying the existence of trans people. In short, the executive order only formally recognized two genders. The executive order bars agencies and federal workers from gender identity outside of sex assigned at birth. This is an obvious ploy to push trans and non-cis-identifying people further into the margins of society. By not recognizing them Trump is designing an America in which non-cis people do not exist.
Every day a new executive order is signed, and another progressive piece of legislation is revoked. The Trump administration is working with extreme fervor to send us back to an America we had to work so hard to get away from. We are not turning back the clock Black progress, and now we are in the fight of our lives for it. Join us, your family, neighbors, and friends as we work to create a fairer and more humane world for Black people everywhere. >> [link removed]
