President Donald J. Trump signed the Laken Riley Act into law—a significant victory for public safety and the rule of law.

This legislation ensures that dangerous criminals who have no right to be in this country are detained and removed from our communities before they can cause more harm.

But here in New York, Governor Kathy Hochul and radical Democrats are working against public safety at every turn.

Take Jose Ibarra, the illegal immigrant charged with Laken Riley’s brutal murder. ICE has now confirmed that Ibarra was arrested in New York City in September 2023 for acting in a manner to injure a child under 17 and a motor vehicle license violation. Instead of being detained and deported, he was released under the disastrous sanctuary policies Hochul supports.

Laken Riley should be alive today. Instead, Hochul and her Democrat allies have prioritized criminal illegal immigrants over the safety of law-abiding citizens.

And if that wasn’t bad enough—more than 150 House Democrats voted against the Laken Riley Act, choosing to side with criminals rather than American families. 

That includes some of New York’s own so-called representatives:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), Jamaal Bowman (NY-16), Jerry Nadler (NY-12), Gregory Meeks (NY-5), Grace Meng (NY-6), Nydia Velázquez (NY-7), Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8), Yvette Clarke (NY-9), Daniel Goldman (NY-10), Ritchie Torres (NY-15), Paul Tonko (NY-20), Pat Ryan (NY-18), Brian Higgins (NY-26).

They voted to let criminals like Ibarra walk free. They voted against law and order. And they have the audacity to claim they represent you.

New York cannot afford more of this madness.
